Superproductive and perfect for batch production
CamGrind L2
Basic Data

The two-slide machine CamGrind L offers brand new design options in camshaft machining, with complete machining for complex workpieces of up to 650 mm in a single clamping. Particularly in the case of changing machining tasks in mid to high volume production, both cycle times and investment costs can be reduced, with consistently high quality.

Machine description

  • Compact two-slide machine for cylindrical and noncircular grinding of shaft-type workpieces up to 650 mm in length, height of centers 220 mm
  • Highly productive cross-slide machine for high-volume production
  • Simultaneous complete machining of complex workpieces in a single clamping with max. 4 grinding wheels
  • Arrangement of machine table at 20° angle for optimal rigidity
  • Use of CBN grinding wheels up to 480 mm Ø
  • Digital drives for high-precision axis positioning
  • Machine bed with optimal damping characteristics

Options

  • 1-2 swivel-in grinding spindles for grinding concave cam forms even at closely juxtaposed grinding points (min. 20 mm)
  • Portal loading system
  • Two workheads for highly productive output
  • Robot automation

Features

Machine base

The CamGrind L2 comprises a welded steel construction machine base, which is partially filled with mineral aggregate. As a result it possesses good damping characteristics and favorable thermal behavior, similar to Granitan®.

Swivel-in spindle

Thanks to SCHAUDT‘s patented swivel-in spindle, the CamGrind L2 can be additionally equipped with up to four grinding wheel. The spindle is mainly equipped with ceramic CBN wheels. Electroplated or metal-bonded tools can also be used.

Workhead

The CamGrind L2 features a high-precision, directly powered workhead with excellent runout characteristics. The rigid design of the directly powered spindle makes the headstock suitable for clamping with MK4 center points as well as for chuck operation.

Tailstock

The hydraulically actuated slide tailstock of the CamGrind L2 has a stroke of 150 mm. The tailstock can therefore be used for various workpieces without any set-up time. Monitoring of several clamping positions is also possible. The clamping pressure can be continuously adjusted manually.

B Axis

The B-axis with its three grinding spindles offers the optimal solution for every machining task. Any angle can be swiveled to within the swiveling range of 240°. This enables further interesting grinding processes, such as grinding flat shoulders using the angular plunge method or taper grinding using the plunge method without profiled grinding wheel.

Multiwheel Technology

The further development of simultaneous machining into multiwheel technology means that all cylindrical features of a workpiece can be ground in a single plunge. This reduces the cycle time to a minimum and the productivity of the machine increases accordingly.

In-process gauging

High-precision in-process measuring heads can be used without problem in the CamGrind L2. Measurement occurs during the grinding process and eliminates the need for manual corrections by the machine operator. As a result auxiliary times are shortened significantly, and cycle times are reduced.

Swivel-in measuring probe

The CamGrind L2 is optionally equipped with a swivel-in measuring probe. This is mounted on the cross slide, which results in tremendous flexibility without additional set-up. The swivel-in process occurs pneumatically or hydraulically, depending on the version.

Double grinding stations

For especially high-performance applications such as the grinding of cam units, the CamGrind L2 can be equipped with two grinding stations. These are supplied with workpieces in staggered cycles by a compact robot. This significantly increases the machine's output.

Robot automation

The CamGrind L2 can be outfitted with a compact KUKA robot that is protected against oil and water in accordance with IP 67. Particularly advantageous is the fact that the robot can be directly controlled with the Sinumerik 840D sl via the Run MyRobot software interface. Machine and robot can be simply integrated into the machine process via a central control unit with a convenient operator interface.

WOP-G programming interface

The WOP-G programming system enables quick and easy programming of cylindrical and noncircular workpiece contours. From just a few inputs WOP-G creates harmonic speed profiles, which can be variably adapted. This enables combination machining of concave and convex profiles in a single clamping with the highest precision.
