The markets require modern tool and die manufacturers to produce a vast range of different parts. To give them the necessary flexibility, they prefer simple, user-friendly machines with short retooling times. This is, and has always been, one of the challenges Jung relishes.

But today, automating the grinding processes themselves – particularly
dressing technology – is simpler and more efficient because the processes are controlled. The only process that requires an operator is the manual geometric set-up; after that the grinding process, including the dressing, is carried out automatically.


A number of well-known dressing machines, such as the Diaform or Optidress, are being increasingly sidelined for the simple reason they are manually operated. The new PA37K from Jung is an improved version of the tried-and-tested PA31K triple-axle profile dresser and offers even greater flexibility than its predecessor.


 

This is because it features a diamond star equipped to hold six dressing
diamonds or a powered diamond wheel. The use of unique new automatic dressing and diamond gauging systems cuts set-up time to a minimum and gives Jung a sharp competitive edge over the competition.

The machine is programmed using Jung's own GRIPS32 programming
system. Geometries can be read in using existing CAD systems and then
dress-checked at the touch of a button. The necessary dressing program is then generated.

The reliability that goes hand in hand with controlled dressing means once
the program has been started, even manual machines are able to finish the task in hand without any form of assistance from the operator. This means employees' time can be used much more productively in various different ways, such as operating several machines simultaneously.

 In addition, the total running time of the various processes is shortened because dressing involves simply lifting the grinding head off the workpiece, dressing the grinding wheel and then continuing immediately with the machining. Starting up with an external dressing station is thus no longer necessary. The problem of collisions during insertion between the workpiece and table dressing machines is also eliminated because the entire dressing process takes place from the top in collision-free space.

The Jung PA37K is the perfect response to the demand for simpler machines that are capable of increasingly complex machining processes. The unit is also available in a stand-alone version and can either be retrofitted to all JE series machines currently on the market or fully integrated in new CNC J series machines.
